TITLE:

Functional Literacy Intervention Packages

BACKGROUND DEVELOPMENT:

The materials were developed as literacy intervention packages by a group of teachers from Leigh Park schools. The particular focus was on developing materials for key areas of development/ learning which groups of children found particularly difficult and prevented effective curriculum access. These are identified as the areas of need in the overview of the material reproduced below. The materials currently available are the second edition, revised and updated by a group of teacher who had used the materials extensively in their own schools. Through this work the materials were modified to:

  • Incorporate resources that are age appropriate.
  • Reflect the most recently published materials, including those by the DCSF.
  • Include a wider range of ideas that had been tried and tested, with success, by local schools

Riverside Community Special School has undertaken the ‘lead school’ role for the project including outreach support/ advice to the schools in implementing the packages.
